The Internal Affairs Bureau is the primary entity within the Red County Sheriff's Department responsible to receive and investigate misconduct complaints against its employees, both administrative and criminal in nature. The Internal Affairs Bureau consists of experienced members of the Red County Sheriff's Department who are tasked with investigating these complaints and upholding the high standards that the Sheriff's Department expects of its employees.
How Can I File A Complaint?
Any member of the public can file a complaint through any of the following means:
- Directly to the Internal Affairs Bureau mailbox using the format provided in this document.
- By writing to the Dillimore Sheriff's Station.
- In-person; by visiting the Dillimore Sheriff's Station front desk. You may ask to speak to the on-shift Watch Commander, who will listen to your complaint in a private room and forward it to the Internal Affairs Bureau as necessary.
Complaint Form:
The Internal Affairs Bureau does not automatically reject anonymous complaints. However, when the complainant choses to remain anonymous, it can make it harder to fully investigate the complaint. With sufficient detail, an investigation may still be opened, but without a way to follow up for more information, the process can be limited. Furthermore, anonymous testimonies hold far less legal value than those from an identified source.
We strongly encourage complainants to identify themselves as to give the investigation every chance possible. Your identity remains classified as part of the case file and will not be made known outside of the Internal Affairs Bureau. Do note that, if your complaint is criminal in nature and the case is entered into the judicial system, your identity may become public as part of court proceedings.
What Happens When I File A Complaint?
When a complaint is received, it goes through a specific process that is outlined below. The Internal Affairs Bureau investigates every complaint fairly and thoroughly, meaning this process may take a long time depending on the case.
- The Internal Affairs Bureau Unit Commander will receive the complaint and ensure that it holds the basic necessary information to start a Misconduct Investigation or Criminal Investigation.
- If the Unit Commander deems it appropriate to open an investigation, he will forward it to the team leader of the Internal Investigations Unit.
- The team leader will open a case file and assign any number of investigators to the case.
- The investigation will run its course, with every piece of evidence being closely examined and all possible witnesses being interviewed.
- Once the investigation has been concluded, the Team Leader will submit its findings to the Unit Commander for a final review.
- After the Unit Commander finalizes its review, the case is concluded.
If the faction member has breached any server rules, please file a complaint specifying that it's Out of Character.
Any other OOC complaints should be forwarded directly to the Unit Commander of IAB, currently Smile. If the complaint is against any member of Command Staff, send the complaint directly to Executive Staff. If the complaint is against Executive Staff, send the complaint directly to the Sheriff. Complaints against the Sheriff, or complaints of a highly sensitive nature, should be sent directly to Faction Management or through a Faction Complaint.
The complainant will be kept informed during every step of the process with a reference case number. Any questions should be forwarded to the Internal Affairs Bureau mailbox and always contain the provided case number.
